Cook County Sun and Save launched in 2023 to remove cost barriers to solar energy for income-eligible homeowners in Cook County. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act, the program delivers solar panel installations at no cost to eligible participating residents. So far, the program has completed 62 solar installations across the Chicagoland area, with additional projects actively moving forward. There are a few stand-out projects that were particularly successful.
One installation at a Bridgeview property ended up producing 6,645 kWh annually, covering 91% of the home’s annual electricity use. Another solar panel installation for a Glenview applicant resulted in a yearly production of 8,345 kWh, covering 83% of the household’s annual energy use. An additional project in Bridgeview produced 4,842 kWh in one year. Similarly to the Glenview property, solar panels now cover 83% of annual electricity production. The program also upgraded the home’s meter socket. All of these projects exceeded our initial expectations of energy production.Cook County Sun and Save is proud to contribute to a smaller environmental footprint and reduced utility costs for all.
